4 Makeup Looks We Love from Your Favorite Netflix Series

BY JULIA BENITO

Worthy of making you pause your binge.

For the beauty obsessed, there comes a time every blue moon during a Netflix binge that you must press pause halfway through the episode in admiration and go, “Huh, that’s a great look.” Here are some makeup looks from popular Netflix series that we (still) go ga-ga over.

Riverdale

Betty Cooper Riverdale Netflix Series

With the craziness that is Riverdale, where twists and turns abound with random musical numbers sprinkled in, there are not many things we can correctly predict except that the next episode will probably be completely bananas.

Taking a much darker swerve from the Archie comics we’ve grown up with, we’re met with mature and unexpectedly supernatural themes that make the main characters’ lives in high school make our boring teen years pale in comparison. But of all the — albeit strange — things Riverdale throws at us, there’s one thing that makes sense (sort of): Betty Cooper.

Taking on the good girl persona of the group, this headstrong, doe-eyed, justice-seeking blonde is much more than your average cheerleading, ponytail-wearing girl-next-door. Chasing crimes even before becoming an FBI trainee, Betty stumps all potential stereotypes of her being a “dumb blonde”.

Why We Love Her Look

Sometimes, simplicity can be powerful. Betty shows this, sporting a “clean girl” makeup look while taking down bad guys — and her inner demons — left and right. Shaped brows, a flawless base, hints of blush and contour, and a light lip define her usual cookie-cutter look. But as the show continues to prove, you can’t let appearances fool you.

Sex Education

Sex Education Eric Netflix Series

One of the best coming-of-age shows in our books, Sex Education does plenty to explore not just sexuality, but dealing with trauma, external expectations, and the sense of self. Delving deep into each character’s personal woes, this British comedy-drama presents the entirely real issues of growing up, falling in love, and finding yourself in a heartwarming yet hilarious series that deserves every high praise that it gets.

In particular, the story of Eric Effiong struggling with the crippling push and pull of seeking acceptance from his father and expressing his true self presents a hard-hitting reality that we know many kids growing up face off-screen. Depicting these challenging realities of life isn’t easy, which is all the more reason to fall in love with this show and its multi-faceted characters.

Why We Love His Look

Eric’s journey of growing into himself and bravely denying those that would rather see him hide certain aspects of his being away will always blow us away. This incredible glittery green look encapsulates just that — bold, brave, and full of love for oneself.

Bridgerton

Bridgerton Daphne Netflix Series

Who doesn’t love a historical romance? This series based on Julia Quinn’s collection of novels takes us through the story of the eponymous Bridgerton family as they traverse the delicate ropes of marriage in the world of Regency-era London. Following the journey of Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of this powerful family, as she makes her debut in 1813 as a marriageable youth in London’s marriage market, we’re thrown behind the scenes of how she and her family navigate through the pressures of society and the search for love.

Why We Love Her Look

Youthful, fresh, and delicate as a rose, Daphne is truly a sight to behold. Regal in all senses of the word, this debutante has everything we wish we naturally woke up with — perfectly groomed brows, a soft flush, excellent skin, and bright, eager eyes. Dressed in her beautiful gowns and jewelry, there’s no wonder this picturesque young lady was poised to be the 1813’s season’s Incomparable.

Love, Death, & Robots

Jibaro The Siren Love Death & Robots Netflix Series

Truly a series that stands in its own genre, Love Death, & Robots never ceases to amaze with the diverse stories and art styles brought to life by incredibly talented visual artists. As an anthology with no defining storyline, each volume brings with it unique episodes, stunning animation, and plenty of viscerally shocking scenes that make for unforgettable works of art.

In the last episode of the latest volume, ‘Jibaro’ presents us with a captivating story of a deaf knight who wanders away from his comrades and discovers a golden scale in a nearby lake, triggering the appearance of a jewel-covered siren residing in the water.

With her ear-shattering shriek and beguiling movements, she brings chaos to the soldiers, leading them to their death. Being deaf, Jibaro, the main character, is unaffected — something that intrigues the siren. This intrigue ultimately leads to both of their own downfalls. While the whole episode is a seat-gripping chronicle of lust and greed made with intense gore to boot, it’s tough to deny the beauty in such a tragic tale.

Why We Love Her Look

Honestly, just look at her. Dripping in gold, jewels, gems, and treasures, as well as some killer makeup (pun intended), the visual impact of her aesthetic is hard to keep your eyes off of. Mixing in her gold plating with heavy eye makeup, a dark bejeweled lip, and beautiful line work make her design absolutely captivating. We wouldn’t be surprised to see this look copied many times for Halloween — though we must admit, it definitely won’t be easy.
