Revealing the answer through this eponymous blue bottle, the Calvin Klein Defy Eau de Parfum celebrates self-reflection and taking risks. The same ethos is reflected in its campaign which depicts Richard Madden showing off his two contrasting sides of being vulnerable and daring. Clothed in Calvin Klein’s iconic jeans and a timeless white t-shirt, his eyes meet the camera with a rebellious stare. Draped behind is a blurred urban landscape in distance and a powerful deep blue sky that mimics the gradient hues of the iconic flacon.

The Scent of Defiance

To defy means having a distinct contrast, and Calvin Klein made sure that it was evident in its concoction, which boasts a mix of leather notes and exhilarating freshness. While it encompasses the same woody signature as the original Eau de Toilette, this newer version has an unexpected and darker twist. You’ll feel the punch later after being welcomed by a burst of citrus highlighted by Mandarin oil, then an addictive leather accord that cheekily sneaks in later. Modern masculinity is accentuated, while building extreme contrast to rich Vetiver Oil at the base, bringing us back to the tenor of the campaign.

A Timeless Flacon

Encapsulated in a luxurious bottle, the flacon pays homage to the edgy aesthetics of Calvin Klein’s design codes. The bottle cleverly captures the juxtaposition of opposing forces — vulnerable yet courageous — through the curves and sharp, powerful corners. Adding more drama, the weighted glass is colored in an intense navy blue gradient that is reminiscent of the campaign’s twilight moment. And for the finishing touch, a textured matte blue cap inspired by Calvin Klein denim is crowned at the top.
