Check out the Pop Mart figurine from The Monsters Series that has taken the world by storm.
Labubu has undeniably taken over social media, with the mischievous elvish doll gracing screens far and wide. While this enchanting character has been around since 2015, it’s only now that it’s stepping into the limelight, captivating a new generation of fans and sparking a wave of admiration. The person who catapulted the Pop Mart figurine to fame? BLACKPINK’s Lisa. Earlier in April this year, the K-pop star posted an Instagram story of herself hugging a Labubu plush doll. And that obsession didn’t stop there. She even started decorating her Kaith Elena bag and Birkin bag with Labubu pendants. Subsequently, people around the world started to get on the hype – thanks to its cuteness. But despite the excitement, many questions remain – What exactly is a Labubu? Which country is it from?

What Is Labubu?
Labubu is actually part of “The Monsters” Pop Mart series. Created by artist Kasing Lung over his fascination with Nordic mythologies, he created the Monsters universe in 2015, modeling his characters after elves, fairies, and monsters. If you’re interested to know who’s who, read on!
Who’s There In The Monsters Universe?
Labubu
The star of the show, Labubu is the most popular in ‘The Monsters’ series. It’s recognizable by its serrated teeth, fur, and a sly smile. The Pop Mart website describes Labubu as mischievous yet kind-hearted, always eager to lend a helping hand, even if her good intentions sometimes lead to unintended chaos. Her long ears are reminiscent of other Monsters in the collection, but she bears the most striking resemblance to Zimomo.
*Fun Fact: Labubu is not one, but a group of elves from the picture book – Mysterious Buca.
Zimomo
Much like Labubu, Zimomo showcases a fluffy coat, elongated ears, and an endearing set of razor-sharp teeth that contribute to their quirky appeal. At first glance, you might think distinguishing between the two is a challenge, as their playful expressions and features are quite similar. However, there’s a simple trick to tell them apart: Zimomo sports a distinctive tail, while Labubu is delightfully tail-free.
Tycoco
If you thought skulls couldn’t be cute, Tycoco is here to change your mind. This charming skeletal character often finds themselves at the mercy of Labubu’s playful antics. Luckily for Labubu, Tycoco values their friendship too much to walk away. Deep down, Tycoco knows that Labubu has a special place in her heart.
Spooky
Spooky is an irresistibly round little character, complete with a cheeky grin and a signature pointed nose. His ghostly, ethereal presence gives him an air of mystery, but don’t let that fool you—Spooky is genuinely friendly and playful. Often found indulging in a variety of fun activities, he loves to explore, bringing a dash of whimsy and adventure to every corner he encounters.
Pato
Introducing Pato, the charming concluding member of The Monsters ensemble. With his unmistakable droopy ears and mouse-like features, he’s a figure that captures the imagination. While purple is his signature shade, Pato often surprises fans with colorful variations, such as the eye-catching brown of his Squid Game-inspired iteration. His flair for style is further enhanced by an array of hats, each adding a unique touch to his adventurous character. Always eager to explore and indulge in playful mischief, Pato truly embodies the whimsical spirit of The Monsters collection.
