It’s been 38 years since the first ever Nike Air Max 1 was released in 1987. Using Nike’s most popular technology (Nike Air Technology), this groundbreaking sneaker drove sneaker heads into a viral pandemonium when it made the invisible visible through its exposed Air-cushioned sole.

● It was in March of 1987 that the Air Max 1 was debuted to the world

● Using the tagline “Revolution In Motion”, their TV ad campaign was the first ad to feature a Beatles song “Revolution”. It was also a star-studded commercial featuring athletes like John McEnroe, Bo Jackson and Michael Jordan

● It was developed by Tinker Hatfield, a runner and architecture graduate who joined Team Nike in 1981. In 1985, he switched over to sneaker design and the rest is history

● Nike’s marketing committee was hesitant over the idea of the Air Max because it’s was a drastic change to the heel design

● The iconic sneaker uses “Nike Air-Technology” which was developed by NASA aerospace engineer genius Marion Frank Rudy

● The “No foam, no air” shoe was the Nike Air Max 360 (2006) giving the sensation of riding on air. The latest release is the Nike Air Max 2015 boasting maximum air and maximum flexibility.
