Get your eggnogs and blankets ready!
Christmas movies may be cheesy but they sure are helpful in getting us through the torturous days of the Christmas countdown. Not to mention they make the best distractions when heaps of Christmas prepping chores are undone — like endless baking and wrapping presents (eep). But don’t settle for any film you can find, Christmas flicks galore to the point that most of the names we have not even heard of. To ensure your festive spirit doesn’t get disrupted, we’ve done our best to filter the best Christmas movies so that you have more time to sip on your egg nogs and less time scrolling!
Spirited
It’s another take on Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol, only this time, the movie doesn’t follow the traditional story plot. Instead of showing Scrooge the error of his ways, it’s the ghost of Christmas Present who is re-examining his life. Expect big musicals and lots of laughter as Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrel team up in Spirited.
Disenchanted
Enchanted came out almost two decades ago, but the magic sure hasn’t faded. Once again, we find ourselves drenched in excitement as Disney announces its sequel — Disenchanted. Amy Adams returns to portray pure and loving Giselle, who accidentally got turned evil. Can she race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after really means to her?
Violent Night
Keep those blankets close to eye level, because not all Christmas tales are bloodless. In the movie Violent Night, an elite team of mercenaries breaks into a family compound on Christmas eve while taking everyone hostage inside. Fortunately, Santa Claus steps in just in time to save the day (and Christmas), showing the world that Nick is no saint at all.
Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical
Growing up with Roald Dahl’s stories was an imperative part of almost everyone’s childhood. And so, seeing his work being brought to life this holiday season consequently flips that nostalgia switch. As is in the title, get ready for a series of original songs and dances while following an extraordinary girl with vivid imagination and mind who takes a stand and changes her own destiny.
Falling For Christmas
What’s a Christmas movie without romance and a kiss under a mistletoe? Hardly an interesting one we can tell you that, and luckily this feature here is nothing like that at all. Long-awaited Lindsay Lohan returns to the screen to play a newly engaged heiress, who after a ski accident, is diagnosed with amnesia. She’s left in the care of a handsome lodge owner…and what happens after isn’t very hard to guess.
