Converse is probably most famous for its Chuck Taylors - all because of the basketball player named Charles "Chuck" Taylor, who entered a Converse store looking for a pair of basketball shoes for his sore feet. In 1917, the company developed the Converse All-Star basketball shoe, and after hiring Taylor in 1921, who worked as a salesman and ambassador for the brand, his name became synonymous with the design. As a result of Taylor’s efforts in promoting the shoes all around the United States, his signature was added to the All-Star patch on the brand’s classic, high-topped sneakers in 1932. However, as time went not, this brand began creating not only its signature high-cut shoes but low-cut pairs and even platform sneakers as well. WHAT WAS THE FIRST CONVERSE SHOE?

The Converse Shoe Company was first founded in 1908 and specialized in a type of rubber footwear called galoshes. In 1910, Converse began making sneakers using their rubber with a fabric upper. After five years, Marquis Mills decided to change the focus of the company to developing footwear for athletic use. In 1917, began to sell high-top athletic shoes specifically for basketball which they called Non-Skids, which closely resemble what we now recognize to be Converse High Tops.

WHAT IS THE ORIGINAL CHUCK TAYLOR?

It was in 1920 when Converse launched the now iconic All-Star basketball shoe. The following year, in 1921, professional basketball player Charles "Chuck" Taylor began to work with Converse and later suggest improvements to the All-Star shoe to create a more supportive, flexible version. The updated shoe that featured Taylor's enhancements was then launched and renamed the "Chuck Taylor All-Star".
